Travel Insurance Reviews: The OneTrip Prime Plan vs. OneTrip Premier Plan

Allianz - Luggage

The OneTrip Premier Plan is, quite simply, the best travel insurance plan offered by Allianz Global Assistance. But it may not be the best travel insurance plan for every traveler.

You might not need $50,000 in emergency medical coverage, for instance, or $1 million in emergency medical transportation. It all depends on your destination, your health and your unique needs. Here are in-depth travel insurance reviews for both OneTrip Premier and OneTrip Prime so you can compare and choose the right one.

Benefit comparison for the OneTrip Prime Plan vs. OneTrip Premier Plan

Here's the upshot: Both plans give you robust coverage for all crucial travel eventualities, including trip interruption and cancellation, travel and baggage delays, emergency medical and dental coverage and emergency medical transportation. In general, the OneTrip Premier Plan doubles the coverage of the OneTrip Prime Plan for most post-departure benefits.

How do you know which plan is the best travel insurance for you?

If the OneTrip Prime Plan is a cozy weather-proof jacket, the OneTrip Premier Plan is a coat warm enough for an Arctic expedition. Which one should you take on your next trip? Here are four things to consider.

  • Who's traveling with you? Both plans work well for families traveling overseas, because they cover children aged 17 and under at no additional cost. But you may want the increased protection of the OneTrip Premier Plan if you're traveling with multiple children. If you're touring Europe with three teenaged granddaughters, for example, you need all the peace of mind — and lost luggage protection— you can get.
  • Where are you going? Here's a good rule of thumb: the more remote your destination, the more expensive emergency medical care will be. If you're traveling to Norway and Sweden, chances are you'll have easy access to high-quality medical care. If you're visiting Lord Howe Island — a jewel off the Australian coast — the nearest major hospital is a long, expensive flight away.1
  • What are you doing on your trip? While medical emergencies are impossible to predict, it's safe to say that you'll be more prone to injuries on a vacation spent hiking and biking than shopping and sunbathing. Active travelers may want to invest in the increased protection of the OneTrip Premier Plan. Please note, however, that all travel insurance plans from Allianz Global Assistance exclude losses related to extreme sports and other high-risk activities.
  • Are you in good health? Both OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier Plans include coverage for existing medical conditions at no additional cost, as long as you meet certain requirements. For instance, you must insure the full cost of your trip within 14 days of paying your first trip deposit, and you must be medically able to travel when you do so. If you suffer from a medical condition that could potentially require emergency care, you may want higher coverage amounts.

Whichever plan you choose, you know you're well protected. Both the OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier Plan are highly rated in travel insurance reviews. On InsureMyTrip, 98 percent of customers said they'd recommend the OneTrip Prime Plan to a friend; 100 percent said they'd recommend the OneTrip Premier Plan.2

As always, read your policy documents carefully so you understand what's covered by your travel insurance plan. Need help figuring out which plan is best for your next trip? Call our travel insurance advisers at 1-866-884-3556. Safe travels!
